In fifteen years of practicing law in multiple states, I have come to realize there are certain areas of law a couple of areas of law that my clients don’t need me.  They can be Do It Yourself Lawyers.

Those Areas Are:

1.     Incorporating – Create and or Maintain a Corporation and Corporate Records

2.   Estate Planning – Drafting your Revocable Living Trust or Last Will and Testament

Do You Know How Much It Costs to Hire An Attorney?

There are three main ways that attorney’s charge for their services.

1.       By the hour – This can range from $150 an hour to as high as $1,000.00 per hour.   According to a law.com article on hourly billing rates, an associate (not a partner but an associate) at Dorsey Whitney Law billed out at $835/hr.

2.     By the project – The attorney will quote you an exact price or range of what her services will cost you.

3.     Contingency – This mode of billing is most common in the personal injury area of the law.  The standard rate for the attorney is to be paid 1/3 of any damages collected.  (This does not include the costs that the attorney incurs.

Many people are being priced out of getting legal help.
